Getting Around Munich

From the Airport

Transport. From Munich International Airport (MUC) you can take the S‑Bahn lines S1 or S8 directly into the city centre (Marienplatz) in about 40 minutes for roughly €12 (MVV ticket). The Lufthansa Express Bus also runs every 15‑20 minutes to Marienplatz in about 45 minutes and costs €10. Uber operates at the airport, and the local rides‑hailing app Free Now (formerly mytaxi) as well as regular taxis are readily available.

Once You're There

Transport. Munich’s public transport network is extensive – the U‑Bahn, S‑Bahn and several tram lines (e.g., Tram 19, 27) are all part of the MVV system and are the easiest way to get around. The historic Altstadt is very walkable, so most attractions are reachable on foot. For longer trips many visitors use Uber or Free Now, while renting a car is generally unnecessary and costly due to traffic and limited parking.
